Diapers

The Pampers Swaddlers fit is great for most baby and helps keep "the mess" inside. Also there's a nice stripe indicator which turns to blue when wet. The larger the pack, the cheaper it is, so try to schedule well ahead what and how much you are going to use of each size. The best way to buy it is with Amazon's Subscribe and Save, which is the cheapest option - up to 20% discount. Every month you'll get the box to your door, and you can always postponed the delivery or replace it with a bigger size.
Disposable changing underpads

Disposable changing underpads

Alternative products:
Nail clipper

Nail clipper

  • 43 bought
  • 4.0 (244)
The magnifying glass is really useless, but the nail clipper is indeed needed as most newborns grow their nails really quickly and need almost a weekly treatment to avoid scratching themselves.
Formula

Formula

  • 80 bought
  • 4.2 (606)
Even though our baby is breast fed, having a formula at hand is a good backup plan in case somebody else needs to take care of the baby, or maybe you're out and there's no private place to breastfeed. Additionally, breastfeeding is really hard at the begining, and so having a bottle to quiet the baby and give a little time for the soar nipples to heal was important.

Pack N' Play

Pack N' Play

  • 283 bought
  • 4.6 (892)
If you want to keep your baby sleeping with you after its first 2 months, you'll need something bigger than the crib mentioned above, and so this Pack'N'Play was a compromise for a medium size sleeping arrangement which didn't block our entire bedroom. In any case, this is also a good and inexpensive solution for sleeping arrangement when traveling.

"Tiny Love" Activity Gym

  • 1,006 bought
  • 4.6 (938)
You'll need a place to leave your baby to play and enjoy by himself while you try to make yourself something to eat. The toys in this activity gym are easy to move around. We didn't even plug the batteries. The mirror toy is a nice touch which encourages the baby to some tummy time.

Nursing Pillow

Nursing Pillow

  • 1,853 bought

Infant To Toddler Rocker

Infant To Toddler Rocker

  • 1,919 bought
  • 4.4 (1,108)

Changing Dresser

Changing Dresser

  • 16,036 bought
It is important that you have a place to change diapers and clothes at the right height so that you don't bend too much and hurt your back. Beside that, the dresser could fit into your bedroom where you could store all the clothes and diapers. For better ideas on designing the nursery, check out the 'Mid Century mid century inspired nursery and Children's Room' list. See also Nursery decor
Ear Thermometer

Ear Thermometer

  • 37,301 bought
Even though all doctors will ask you for a rectal measurement once you call them, we found that being able to take temperature in just 2 seconds was very helpful at times when we weren't sure if the baby was just hot because he was too bundled, or actually had fever. These situations also tend to come with some fussiness, so doing things quickly is important at these stages. Braun's ear thermometer is considered precise and easy to use.
Manual Breast Pump

Manual Breast Pump

  • 105 bought
  • 4.1 (642)
Medela's manual breast pump is one of the most populars. The manual pump is important for relieving engorgement, and is sometimes easier to use and more lightweight when away from the baby. I've heard that some hospitals give this one for free, so you might want to check this. See also Breastfeeding essentials
