This is a list of things you should buy while getting ready for your first newborn. It is a result of brands picked up after looking for online recommendations, blogs, reading Amazon's customer reviews.
You'll use wipes for everything, from cleaning the little one's nose to wiping some drool and cleaning some pee.
The best way to buy it is with Amazon's Subscribe and Save, which is the cheapest option - up to 20% discount. Every month you'll get the box to your door, and you can always postponed the delivery.
The Pampers Swaddlers fit is great for most baby and helps keep "the mess" inside. Also there's a nice stripe indicator which turns to blue when wet. The larger the pack, the cheaper it is, so try to schedule well ahead what and how much you are going to use of each size.

Important for keeping a clean envrionemnt. Many times babies start peeing when you open their diaper, and so being able to change the underpads helped us avoid extra laundries and having underpads linen.
The Uppababy is one of the more expensive strollers you could get and is is popular in Manhattan and San Francisco. It's main advantages are:
* Big basket for toys and groceries
* Bassinet/ rain cover/ mosquito net are included.
* Seat adjusts to a forward-facing and rear-facing positions
* Adjustable handles for tall people
The Chicco car seat comes with a base so you don't need to use the seat belt for every use. It comes with a newborn liner and it's well padded. it has 2 wings of canopy to protect from the sun.
* Most of the strollers have an adapter for this car seat.
Even though our baby is breast fed, having a formula at hand is a good backup plan in case somebody else needs to take care of the baby, or maybe you're out and there's no private place to breastfeed. Additionally, breastfeeding is really hard at the begining, and so having a bottle to quiet the baby and give a little time for the soar nipples to heal was important.
Easier swaddling blankets help keep the baby swaddled just like in the womb, sleep better and stay calm. We bought this after watching The Happiest Baby on the Block by Dr. Harvey Karp (see later in the list)
Dr Brown's bottles have a special feature which helps the baby avoid sucking air, thus becoming gassy and fussy. If you don't have a dishwasher, maybe you should consider other bottles. This one have to many parts, some with narrow tubes that needs special cleaning. We have also tried the Tommy Tippy bottle, and it was very good.
Tommee Tippee bottles are easier to clean than the Dr Brown as they have fewer parts. The nipples are vented to prevent air and vacuum build up, and are advertised as designed to be closer to the natural nipple.
If you want to keep your baby sleeping with you after its first 2 months, you'll need something bigger than the crib mentioned above, and so this Pack'N'Play was a compromise for a medium size sleeping arrangement which didn't block our entire bedroom. In any case, this is also a good and inexpensive solution for sleeping arrangement when traveling.
You'll need a place to leave your baby to play and enjoy by himself while you try to make yourself something to eat. The toys in this activity gym are easy to move around. We didn't even plug the batteries. The mirror toy is a nice touch which encourages the baby to some tummy time.
In the first few months many babies love to spend some time on a bouncer or a rocker. At about 5 months you'll start to feed the baby with solids, the bouncer is a good place to put her for the meal. (Before she can sit up steady on a chair).
It is important that you have a place to change diapers and clothes at the right height so that you don't bend too much and hurt your back. Beside that, the dresser could fit into your bedroom where you could store all the clothes and diapers.

Even though all doctors will ask you for a rectal measurement once you call them, we found that being able to take temperature in just 2 seconds was very helpful at times when we weren't sure if the baby was just hot because he was too bundled, or actually had fever. These situations also tend to come with some fussiness, so doing things quickly is important at these stages.
Braun's ear thermometer is considered precise and easy to use.
Medela's manual breast pump is one of the most populars. The manual pump is important for relieving engorgement, and is sometimes easier to use and more lightweight when away from the baby. I've heard that some hospitals give this one for free, so you might want to check this.

Medela's electric pump is one of the most popular. The carry bag is neat and helps carrying it and using it at work discretely. Many insurance companies will provide you with this pump, so try checking with your insurance provider.

Some babies turn out to like different brands of pacifiers but amongst our friends and recommendations we gathered, MAM's pacifiers are very popular. In the beginning, it's enough to buy only a few, and then once you're sure that the baby will take these, consider buying some more as a backup.
If your baby is about to be born in the winter, and the winter is as bad as in NYC, you should consider getting this one. The BundleMe makes it extremely easy to get the baby ready for going out and saves on fussing with extra layers that need to be taken on and off. This is specifically important when switching between inside and outside, like shopping.
The Arm's reach is one of the only co-sleepers approved in the US. It will the you to keep your baby close, sooth him quickly and reach for him to breast feed without going out of bed. For a later stage consider a full size crib or an in-between solution like the Graco's Pack'N'Play (also on the list). For a more complete solution check the Nursery decor list
Skip Hop's diaper bag has the right amount of compartments, adjustable shoulder strap which connects nicely to the stroller, and a variety of designs. My husband liked it because he was also comfortable with the colors and design.
These pouches weight nothing and take very little space in your over-packed diaper bag. The have a zipper (like the one in ziplock bag) and contain a stack of 1/4 of an inch (manufacturer claims 15 wipes, but it seems like much more can be fit in it).
Soft and thick, this burp cloth will absorb more than you can imagine! It has 2 layers - one with a cute pattern and one the back, a terry cloth layer. It lays on your shoulder or under the baby chin and it doesn't have the extra unnecessary fabric.
